Ray of Eternal Sun: Christine Granger

The Ray of Eternal Sun is a mixed media piece by Christine Granger. It depicts the Madonna and Child in golden color: Her halo is golden and His halo and clothes are golden. The image is set against a dark background of blue and brown with a hint of green in some spots.

This artist applies the chiaroscuro method to this painting very effectively. Chiaroscuro means dark and light. To see the painting go to  Ray of Eternal Sun

Christmas Art: Mobile, Alabama

Traditional Christmas art abounds and you can find it on plates, posters, prints, wallpaper, and cards. The manger scene, the three wise men traveling on camels to see the baby Jesus--the King of Kings--the Madonna and child--these religious depictions tell us what Christmas is all about.

The country and city snow scenes, snowmen, Santa and reindeer evoke a different Christmas concept that is okay, if tempered by the real meaning. But the art work in various forms is plentiful in showing us both sides of Christmas.

Another wonderful Christmas art form is extravagant Christmas tree decorating.

Beginning 12/16/11 at the Cathedral Square Gallery the Creative Christmas Styles
show will feature 5 trees decorated by artists. Also, the artwork of sixty Mobile artists will be displayed.

The Light Before Christmas will be showing at the IMAX at the Gulf Coast Explorium Science Center during the holidays until 1//2/12. It starts 12/16/11.

Ah, Christmas art, you gotta like it.

Grandma Moses Quotes: The Mind of the Painter

Quotes by Grandma Moses reveal her practical and philosophical outlook on life. These examples will prove the point.

"A primitive artist is an amateur whose work sells."

In her case, she was an untrained artist that begin painting late in life, and her paintings sold and went way up in value.

"If you know somethin' well, you can always paint it, but people would be better off buyin' chickens."

The above quote speaks volumes on its own. She lived through The Great Depression and understood the practicality of owning chickens. Such homespun wisdom added to her popularity.

"I look out the window sometimes to seek the color of the shadows and the different greens in the trees, but when I get ready to paint, I just close my eyes and imagine a scene."

Here she speaks of adding her imagination to her observations and painting scenes that many people could relate to, and they liked her work because they could understand it.

Grandma Moses enjoyed painting and making pronouncements about life. Her work and her life embodied a complete and integrated way of thinking and living.
