Adams Family Values, 1993; Thanksgiving

The Adams Family as a TV and movie phenomena is Gothic in nature.  In Adams Family Values, the dark aspect comes out more; their traditional madcap humor is subdued and the grisly side emerges.

Morticia has a baby. The siblings, Pugsley and Wednesday set to work on murdering the baby inventing numerous plans for Pubert's demise. Gomez and Morticia employ a nanny to look after the baby hoping to hinder the nasty attempts on the baby's life by the other children.

The black widow concept that has been used in other movies is utilized in Adams Family Values. The nanny makes a career of finding rich men and after getting married does them in. It always appears to be an accidental death. She latches onto Fester as her next husband victim.

While at camp Wednesday fakes having a positive attitude and goes for the part of Pocahontas in a play about the original Thanksgiving. She ruins the play by persuading three other characters to revolt and she captures them and leaves the camp.

Debbie, Fester's wife tries to electrocute him while they are on their honeymoon. Next, she tries to eliminate him with a bomb. Thing aids him in his escape. At the family reunion, she attempts to kill the family, except Pubert by using electric chairs. When she switches the electricity for the chairs Pubert saves the day.

The movie was written by Paul Rudnick, directed by Barry Sonnenfield, and produced by Scott Rudin.

The tomatometer gives it 78% and the audience 57%.
