Thanksgiving Movies: Free Birds, 2013

Free Birds is a family oriented Thanksgiving movie. That said, there is some sexual content, not much. There shouldn't be any in a film aimed at children.

It is a 3-D computer animation film. The director, screenplay writer Jimmy Hayward applies the ever popular buddy comedy concept to the story. He directed Horton Hears a Who! The other screenplay writer is Scott Mosier. The story is by David I. Stern and John J. Strauss.

Reggie is a knee-knocking, easy to scare turkey that attempts to enlighten other turkeys about the Thanksgiving menu, but the others won't listen to him. They shun him. When they comprehend he was telling the truth, they decide to sacrifice him to save themselves. But he gets a pardon from the president and is taken to Camp David and given the royal treatment.

The leader of the Turkeys Liberation Front, Jake, hijacks Reggie to be in the Front. Through Jake's efforts they end up in the year 1621. He feds Reggie a story about a "Great Turkey" that said go back to take turkeys off the Thanksgiving bill of fare.

Once there,  they are captured by settlers and rescued by Chief Broadbeak. Another battle enuses with the settlers. The chief is killed and Jenny becomes chief. She tells the surviving turkeys to attack the settlers.

Jenny likes Reggie, but she won't go to the future with him. He goes back and finds out that he was the "Great Turkey." He travels back to 1621 and traps Standish who is the settlers leader in a time hole. He stays with Jenny. Jake takes off in the time machine, though he comes back and relates that they have revised the future.

The starring voices are Amy Poehler, Woody Harrelson, and Owen Wilson.

The Rotten Tomaoes audience gave it 58% and the Tomatometer 19%.
