Original Godzilla, 1954, Toho, Gojiria

The first Godzilla movie (1954) was a parable showing the ruination hammered on Japan through radiation.  The giant monster is aroused and emerges from the sea's deep waters. Gojiria is a freak of nature caused by radioactivity.

He exhaled radioactive blazing breath. His phosphorescent dorsal fins exhibited deadly potential. Ships fought the monster with depth charges but that flopped. A Japanese scientist, Serizawa, invented a gadget that breaks down oxygen atoms causing creatures and people to asphyxiate, but Ogata and Serizawa go on a navy ship and dive to deposit the apparatus in Tokyo Bay near Godzilla. When they arrived, the creature was asleep. Godzilla emerged from the water one last time and died.

The film conveyed strong anti-American attitude in the Japanese version. In 1956, the U.S. variant deleted the anti-American leanings. Scenes with the actor, Raymond Burr were grated into the movie. It was entitled Godzilla, King of the Monsters. This was a TransWorld Releasing Corp. redo.

The edited movie of the Toho production spawned a Godzilla craze. Many sequels have come about, along with comics, books, songs, and video games--it is a phenomena that's here to stay.

Godzilla, 2014: Gareth Edwards, Elizabeth Olsen

The new Godzilla movie is going to be more pragmatic. The director, Gareth Edwards, desired to create a version posing the question of it actually happening. His approach is thoughtful. His past accomplishments assure us that his vision will bring the human characteristics to the fore, not overlooking them.

Themes

The film presents two themes. It centers on the concern for family and the results of attempting to dominate nature which causes a backlash, according to Elizabeth Olsen, as told in Wikia.

The Monster Action

Other malicious creatures buttressed through science engage Godzilla in battle.

Concept

The first art concept for this flick was disclosed at Comic Con of 2010 revealing the intention of getting back to the origins.  At the Comic Con of 2012 a trailer was shown.

Special Effects

Jim Rygiel that did the effects for The Lord of the Rings did the effects for this film.

Writers

Max Borenstein wrote the screenplay and David Callaham penned the story.

Legendary Pictures and Warner Brothers teamed up for production and Warner is the distributor. The film's release is timed for 05/16/14 with 2D and 3D versions.

Tarantula, 1955: Giant Monster Movie: Jack Arnold

Tarantula is a good example of the 1950's giant monster movie sub genre. It's directed by Jack Arnold and written by Robert M. Fresco and Martin Berkeley. The main stars were Mara Corday, Leo G. Carroll, and John Agar.

In Tarantula, an experiment on giantism goes awry in an outlying desert laboratory. The scientist wanted to find a way to end starvation, but a spider gets infected with the formula. The huge arachnid goes on a free-for-all destructive binge. The setting is in Arizona where the local population panics, of course. After some failed tactics, the populace is saved from further attack, when a jet fighter squadron bombards it with napalm.

 This is the tradition of spider movies from which Big Ass Spider emerges. Below is an interview with Jack Arnold discussing the making of the movie.
