The Returned, 2014, Zombie Movie, Manuel Carballo

People are infected with a zombie virus. Everybody knows it. The opposition forces are anti-return.

The returned must take a regimen of the return protein every 36 hours that holds the virus back, but doesn't cure it. This is why the opposition is obsessed with getting rid of the infected people. Plus, the hospital's medicinal protein cache might be used up soon.

Kate and Alex have another big problem to face too. The government orders all of the returned to go  to a medical establishment for their own welfare. Supposedly.

Kate is an employee at the hospital where the infected get their injections. She and Jason abscond with the retroviral drug that she hoarded to keep Alex alive and normal.

The film isn't a gore zombie movie, but plays with the idea of people doing something bad to live on or get through, such as, Kate taking medicine for Alex meant for the infected children. The movie may be expressing some sociopolitical concepts relevant to Spain. But the viewer must decide.

The Returned was released in Spain in 2013 as Retornados at Sitges Film Festival on October 18th. Tomorrow on February 14th is the release date in the U.S.A.

Hatem Khraiche wrote the film's story. Manuel Carballo directed it.

Christmas With the Dead: Joe R. Lansdale: Story: Movie

Christmas With the Dead is an imaginative zombie story using the crisis of the flesh eating monsters to fuse Clive's remorse that he had to kill his wife and daughter on Christmas Eve because they had become zombies. He determines to have  a real Christmas this year, after two years of survival mode. This is his way of remembering his family.

He takes off to gather the Christmas decorations and some gas and meets G.M. a survivor and tells him his tale of woe. The action turns rough as they fight the zombies and attempt to get decorations up for Christmas in July. It takes place in Mud Creek of East Texas.

It was originally written as a short story (25 pages) by Joe R. Lansdale and published by P. S. Publishing in 2010. He has written more than 30 novels and has received many awards including the Horror Writers Association Lifetime Achievement Award. The story was illustrated by Glenn Chadbourne.

In 2012 it was adapted for film and went to the film festival circuit. It's a dark comedy B-movie that stars Damian Maffei, and Kasey Lansdale.

World War Z, 2013 : Brad Pitt: Marc Forster

This film is an adaption of the novel by Max Brooks. It departs from the book. It becomes an action film with the hero against almost unbeatable odds theme that Hollywood is so fond of.

Gerry Lane (Brad Pitt) is an employee at the United Nations that goes over the world searching for a method to halt the rampant zombie attack. He must stop the annihilation of the world. Can't you almost hear an evil genius laughing about now? Except this is about zombies. Anyway...

Main Actors

  •  Brad Pitt
  • Matthew Fox
  • Mireille Enos
  • James Badge Dale

Marc Forster directed the film and  Brad Pitt, Dede Gardner,  Ian Bryce, and Jeremy Kleiner produced it. The screenplay was written by Damon Lindlof, Matthew Michael Carnahan, and Drew Goddard.

So a novel that  is written as an oral history about the zombie wars is turned into a fast action, horror, science fiction, thriller flick. Well, in depth thought is hard to portray on screen for long periods of time and keep the audiences attention. Can anyone say short attention span?
